The Franklin County Board of Health requires that all food service establishments in Frankfort and Franklin County have a manager on duty at all times with a valid and current Food Manager Certification. A copy of the certification must be accessible to the inspector upon inspection. Acceptable certifications would include; ServeSafe, other Kentucky county food manager certifications, franchise food manager certification, FDA/USDA/HACCP certifications, others to be determined by staff.
It is our goal that each establishment has a thoroughly trained staff. The management staff should have a far greater knowledge of food safety than their other employees. Please consider all forms of certified food safety manager certification and training and find the class and cost that best suits your establishment’s needs.
New establishments will be granted a 60-day window for new management staff to be trained. Newly hired managers of existing facilities will be allowed 30 days from date of hire to receive training.
An unofficial follow-up notification will be issued to the establishment for failure to obtain required training. The establishment will have 30 business days to complete the required training. Failure to do so will result in an Official Notice for a Hearing. The Franklin County Health Department Environmental Health Director will conduct the hearing.
